Abstract

Mastering English vocabulary is crucial for perfecting English skills, especially in Indonesia where English is a foreign language. To help students’ mastering of vocabulary, educators need to design attractive learning media. The researcher have used the "TikTok" application as an innovative media to create a pleasant learning atmosphere. The study aims to determine students' vocabulary mastery before and after using the application and determine if it has a significant effect on students at SMAN 6 Kota Kediri in the 2023/2024 academic year. The researcher used quantitative research with one group pre-test and posttest. This research was conducted at SMAN 6 Kediri City. The population of this study was eleventh grade students, the sample was class XI-2, with a total of 31 students. Students are given a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. This treatment was carried out once to find out whether there was a significant effect of using song lyrics in the "TikTok" application in teaching vocabulary mastery. Data results were obtained from students' pre-test and post-test scores, which were analyzed using the ttest, using IBM SPSS 20. The results of the data show that the mean of pre-test score was 68.38, and the mean of post-test score was 81.67. Meanwhile, in terms of students' vocabulary mastery, the weakness aspect was in Word Class, but it still improved after being given treatment. The research results show that there is a significant effect from the use of treatment; this is proven by the post-test scores, which are higher than the pretest scores. The final results show that the t-test is -8.540 with a degree of freedom of 30 and significance smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that t-test is higher than t-table, so Ha is accepted. So, these results shows that the use of song lyrics in the "TikTok" application help students in learning English, especially in mastering students' English vocabulary. Furthermore, song lyrics have a positive impact on the learning atmosphere in the classroom. Most of them think that song lyrics are a fun and interesting media for learning, especially songs that are familiar and popular for them. However, the weakness is Wi-Fi connection in using the "TikTok" application as a learning media. This might be used as a reference by teachers if they want to use "TikTok" application as a learning media.
