Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is an essential component of English language learning. However, many junior high school students still have limited vocabulary due to insufficient exposure to English outside the classroom. Instagram Broadcast Channels offer an alternative digital learning medium that provides continuous vocabulary exposure. Therefore, this study aimed to describe students' vocabulary mastery scores before and after the implementation of Instagram Broadcast Channels and to determine whether the implementation had a significant effect on students' vocabulary mastery at SMPN 4 Kediri. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 29 eighth-grade students from Class VIII-K of SMPN 4 Kediri. Data were collected through a vocabulary test covering four vocabulary indicators: word meaning, synonym, antonym, and vocabulary in context. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the Paired Samples t-Test in IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings showed that the mean score increased from 44.60 in the pre-test to 92.87 in the post-test. Students demonstrated vocabulary mastery across all four vocabulary indicators, with the highest achievement in word meaning. The Shapiro-Wilk test indicated that the data were normally distributed. The Paired Samples t-Test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant effect of Instagram Broadcast Channels on students' vocabulary mastery.In conclusion, Instagram Broadcast Channels can serve as an effective digital learning medium to support vocabulary instruction and improve junior high school students' vocabulary mastery.
