Abstract

The results of implementing the student needs assessment are a reference for a counselor in developing a Guidance and Counseling service program. Gaps that arise in the implementation of student needs assessments include the needs assessment procedures, the appropriateness and practicality of the instrument and the problem of the ratio between counselor with students. This gap is very important to immediately find a solution. One solution offered is to take advantage of the assessment application needs of students to help text communication media. This application is the result of the development of previous research. Therefore the aim of the research is to improve the efficiency of the implementation of assessment activities for vocational students through the assessment of student needs aided by the media of text communication. The research design used was an experiment with the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design technique. The research population was 45 vocational high school teachers in the city of Kediri. The sample selection technique was simple random sampling with a percentage of sampling of 25%. So, the number of subjects obtained was 11 people. Research data were extracted using the Counselor Efficiency Student Needs Assessment Questionnaire and interviews / interviews. Based on the magnitude of the significance score obtained from the paired samples test calculation it can be concluded that the hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted because the significance score was 0,000 less than 0.05. Then the use of student needs assessment application assisted by text communication media can be said to be effective to improve the efficiency of student needs assessment by the Counselor. Therefore, it is suggested to the counselor to always be responsive and equip themselves with competencies relevant to existing developments, especially in the realm of student needs assessment. In addition, in order to simplify the process of assessing student needs the counselor can utilize the student needs assessment application assisted by text communication media.
