Abstract
Tarsisia Pingkan Daniswara Dody: The Effect of Audiobook on the Eleventh Grade Students’ Listening Skill of SMAN 5 Taruna Brawijaya Kediri in Academuc Tear 2025/2026, Skripsi, English Language Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri, 17th of July 2026 This study aims to investigate the effect of using audiobooks on students’ listening skills in an EFL classroom. Listening is an integral skill in language learning, which is significantly connected to proficiency in any language. However, there are a number of factors that impede students’ ability to comprehend their own language. Thus, researchers attempted to explore how the use of audiobooks could influence students’ listening skills. The study was conducted among the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Taruna Brawijaya Kediri in the academic year 2025/2026. In this study, a pre-experimental design was utilized applying the one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study was the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 5 Taruna Brawijaya Kediri, while the sample was selected among 24 students. A listening test was conducted as a pre-test and post-test using multiple-choice and true-or-false items. Data analysis was undertaken using descriptive and inferential statistics with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics 31.1. Specifically, mean, paired samples correlation, paired sample t-test, and effect size were calculated to reveal the influence of audiobooks on students’ listening skills. The results of the study demonstrated that students’ performance in the post test (M = 76.71) outperformed the results of the pre-test (M = 60.50). Thus, the application of audiobooks led to the enhancement of students’ listening performance by 16.21 points. The paired sample t-test outcomes also indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the performance in the pre test and post-test with t (23) = 9.145 and p < 0.001. Additionally, the effect size measure revealed that Cohen’s D amounted to 1.867 which suggests that the influence of audiobooks on students’ listening skills was very large. To conclude, the study explored the influence of audiobooks on students’ listening skills. The results of the study demonstrated that audiobooks have a substantial positive impact on students’ listening performance. In this regard, it is possible to suggest that audiobooks could be used as a complementary tool to enhance students’ listening skill.
