Abstract

The study informs Using short stories to students in reading comprehension to young learners in Rejomulyo 2 Elementary School in Kediri. And the purpose of this research is to improve students motivation to read. A classroom action research was conducted in 3 cycles of treatment. and the data were collected through interview, test and observation . The findings of research using short stories helped the students improve their reading comprehension. The result of reading test showed a different score of percentage. In the first cycle the students get average score 60.00 and the second cycle get average score 80.00. From the result of observation the short stories is influential strategy to improve of students reading comprehension. In addition, the result from the observation the students become more exited to use this method , and after they get a test they can more better in reading ability , enjoy reading class , solve the problem in Wh questions and the students became aware of having progress in terms of vocabulary and comprehending the text in general. It means that reading activity using short stories can improve students reading comprehension of Young Learners in Rejomulyo 2 Elementary School.
